RateIQ+Markup Rate Entries

Prev Next

When the Rate Method in a Rate Entry is RateIQ+Markup, the Rate Entry applies to a Customer Quote when the following are true:

  • The RateIQ Rate Entry User field in the Global Settings of TMS Admin → Configuration is set to a user who has API credentials to all RateIQ sources.

  • A RateIQ Calculation has the Active box checked, contains configured Data Sources, and matches to the Load.

  • The Customer Transportation Profile has a Carrier Markup Group, which contains a Carrier Markup where the Markup Basis is set to the RateIQ value. Ensure that the Mode field has a value, but leave the Carrier Service field blank.

Note: The Global Default Transportation Profile may also use a Carrier Markup Group that applies to all customers and cascades from the Customer Transportation Profile.

  • The Customer Transportation Profile has a Rate Entry where:

    • Category is set to Customer

    • Rate Type is set to Freight+Fuel

    • Rate Method is set to RateIQ+Markup

    • Status is set to Accepted

Warning: RateIQ+Markup Rate Entries only applies to Modes that do not have the LTL box checked. Ensure that both the Carrier Markup and Rate Entry records have the same non-LTL Mode selected.

RateIQ Calculations

When a Customer Quote is generated from a RateIQ+Markup Rate Entry, the Freight Charge is calculated by subtracting the RateIQ’s Freight+Fuel value from the Fuel value in the RateIQ Lightning Web Component (LWC) on the Load Lightning Record Page (LRP). That is, the Freight Charge before it is marked up on the Customer Quote is not equal to the RateIQ’s Freight value in the LWC.

This calculation is used because not all RateIQ sources provide a Freight or Fuel value, but all sources provide a Freight+Fuel value. Therefore, the Freight and Fuel amounts are accounted for by using the Freight+Fuel value instead of Freight alone and Fuel alone.

Refer to the Weighting Calculation Example for more information on how these RateIQ amounts are calculated based on the Rate Calculation used.

Fuel Note: If no Fuel value is provided in any sources for the applied Rate Calculation Rule in the RateIQ LWC of the Load LRP, then a Customer Quote is generated but only the RateIQ Freight charge is marked up.

For example, the Freight Charge before markup is calculated as , not the USD 1,791.73 value in the LWC. This value is set for the RateIQ Freight field on the Customer Quote.

The RateIQ Fuel field is equal to the RateIQ’s Fuel value, and the RateIQ Total field is equal to the RateIQ’s Freight+Fuel value. Following the same example, the Customer Quote fields have these values:

  • RateIQ Freight = USD 2,007.35

  • RateIQ Fuel = USD 426.30

  • RateIQ Total = USD 2,433.65

Note: These Customer Quote fields are set based on the RateIQ’s value at the time the quote was generated. Since the RateIQ values are dynamic, these values may change frequently. Rerate the Customer Quote to receive the most up-to-date RateIQ values for Freight and Fuel Charges.

RateIQ+Markup Scenarios

Depending on the value of the Markup Type field on the matching Carrier Markup and whether the Rate Entry has a schedule in the Fuel Surcharge field, different markups are applied to the Customer Quote.

If a Carrier Markup does not match to the Load, no Customer Quote is created.

Accessorial Note: While the Freight+Fuel+Accessorials value is available as a Markup Type where the Markup Basis includes RateIQ, accessorials are not marked up and require an additional Accessorial Rate Entry where the Rate Entry’s Category field is set to Customer.

The Rate Method for an Accessorial Rate Entry cannot be RateIQ+Markup—a warning will appear and the TMS prevents saving the Rate Entry.

Freight Markup with No Fuel Surcharge

If the Markup Type on the Carrier Markup is Freight and the Rate Entry’s Fuel Surcharge field is blank, the following actions occur on the Customer Quote:

  • The RateIQ Freight charge is marked up

  • The RateIQ Fuel charge is not marked up

In the following screenshot, the RateIQ Freight is $2,007.35, but was marked up 10%, resulting in a Net Freight Charge of $2,208.09.
The RateIQ Fuel is $426.30, but was not marked up because the Carrier Markup only applies to the Freight Charge.

Freight+Fuel Markup with No Fuel Surcharge

If the Markup Type on the Carrier Markup is Freight+Fuel and the Rate Entry’s Fuel Surcharge field is blank, the following actions occur on the Customer Quote:

  • The RateIQ Freight charge is marked up

  • The RateIQ Fuel charge is marked up

In the following screenshot, the RateIQ Freight is $2,007.35, but was marked up 10%, resulting in a Net Freight Charge of $2,208.09.
The RateIQ Fuel is $426.30, but was also marked up 10%, resulting in a Fuel Surcharge of $468.93.

Freight+Fuel+Accessorial Markup with No Fuel Surcharge

If the Markup Type on the Carrier Markup is Freight+Fuel+Accessorials, the RateIQ+Markup Rate Entry’s Fuel Surcharge field is blank, and there is an additional Accessorial Rate Entry with the Category set to Customer, the following actions occur on the Customer Quote:

  • The RateIQ Freight charge is marked up

  • The RateIQ Fuel charge is marked up

  • The Accessorial charge is not marked up

In the following screenshot, the RateIQ Freight is $2,007.35, but was marked up 10%, resulting in a Net Freight Charge of $2,208.09.
The RateIQ Fuel is $426.30, but was also marked up 10%, resulting in a Fuel Surcharge of $468.93.

The Accessorial was not marked up because it is using a different Rate Entry—in this example, Rate Entry 618.

One Freight Markup and One Fuel Markup with No Fuel Surcharge

If the Markup Type on one Carrier Markup is Freight, the Markup Type on another Carrier Markup is Fuel, and the Rate Entry’s Fuel Surcharge field is blank, the following actions occur on the Customer Quote:

  • The RateIQ Freight charge is marked up with the Freight Carrier Markup

  • The RateIQ Fuel charge is marked up with the Fuel Carrier Markup

In the following screenshot, the RateIQ Freight is $2,007.35, but was marked up 10%, resulting in a Net Freight Charge of $2,208.09.
The RateIQ Fuel is $426.30, but was marked up 5% by a different Carrier Markup (Markup-1135), resulting in a Fuel Surcharge of $447.62.

Freight+Fuel Markup with Fuel Surcharge

If the Markup Type on the Carrier Markup is Freight+Fuel and the RateIQ+Markup Rate Entry’s Fuel Surcharge field contains a Fuel Surcharge schedule, the following actions occur on the Customer Quote:

  • The RateIQ Freight charge is marked up

  • The RateIQ Fuel charge is not marked up, but uses the Fuel Surcharge from the Rate Entry

In the following screenshot, the RateIQ Freight is $2,007.35, but was marked up 10%, resulting in a Net Freight Charge of $2,208.09.
The RateIQ Fuel is $426.30, but was not marked up or used because the RateIQ+Markup Rate Entry included a Fuel Surcharge schedule. Instead, the schedule was used to calculate the Fuel Surcharge of the quote.

See the Fuel Surcharge Setup article for more information about setting up Fuel Surcharge schedules.

Fuel Markup with No Fuel Surcharge

If the Markup Type on the Carrier Markup is Fuel and the RateIQ+Markup Rate Entry’s Fuel Surcharge field is blank, the following actions occur on the Customer Quote:

  • The RateIQ Freight charge is not marked up

  • The RateIQ Fuel charge is marked up

In the following screenshot, the RateIQ Freight is $2,007.35, but was not marked up because the Carrier Markup only applies to the Fuel Charge.
The RateIQ Fuel is $426.30, but was marked up 10%, resulting in a Fuel Surcharge of $468.93.
