Fleet Management with Samsara

Manage Fleet functions with the integration to Samsara.

Samsara ELD Integration

Fleet Management (FM) requires the use of Samsara ELD tracking. FM integrates with both the ELD device attached to the Fleet Asset and the Driver’s phone with the Samsara Driver Phone Application.

The bi-directional integration is accomplished in three ways.

  • The Fleet Management Job 3 invokes API calls on the Samsara API.

  • Samsara pushes event packets to the TMS via the TMS Listener and Samsara Event Processor.

  • The Load LWC widget can send text messages to the driver via the Samsara phone application.

In the Summer ‘25 TMS release the Fleet Management Job was replaced with Fleet Management Job 3. The new job is faster, more efficient, and should be used to control calls for the Samsara integration.

Samsara Event Processor

The Samsara Event Processor receives “push” packets from Samsara for the following events (if enabled):

  • Battery Low

  • Battery Voltage Below

  • Dashcam Disconnected

  • Device Disconnect

  • Device Has Vehicle Fault

  • Device Location Inside Geofence

  • Device Location Outside Geofence

  • Device Movement

  • Device Speed Above

  • Device Speed Above Speed Limit

  • Device Unplugged

  • Dispatch Route ETA Threshold

  • Door Activated

  • Driver Document Submitted

  • Engine Idle

  • Harsh Event

  • Hos Violation

  • Humidity Above

  • Humidity Below

  • Reefer Has New Alarm

  • Reefer Temperature Above Set Point

  • Reefer Temperature Below Set Point

  • Safe DVIR With Defects

  • Scheduled Maintenance Date

  • Scheduled Maintenance Engine Hours

  • Scheduled Maintenance Odometer

  • Temperature Above

  • Temperature Below

  • Unsafe DVIR

  • Vehicle Fuel Level Below

These events display as alerts in the current stop’s Carrier Status Comments field and the load’s Load Status Comments field.

The Samsara Event Processor receives “push” packets from Samsara corresponding to the following events, if the alerts/events are setup from the Samsara portal.

These alerts are displayed in the current Stop’s Carrier Status Comments field and the load’s Load Status Comments field.

Trip Plan Legs containing an actualized Arrival Date/Time or Departure Date/Time are not sent to the Driver.

Setup Samsara Alerts

  1. Login to the Samsara account.

  2. Select Alerts → Configure.

  3. Under the More menu, filter alerts by Status (Enabled or Disabled) or by Type (Harsh Event, Scheduled Maintenance, Speed, or Temperature).

  4. Select an alert type to modify the alert configuration or create a new alert by selecting an alert from the Add an Alert section. See Alert Types for information about each alert configuration.

  5. Configure the settings for the alert. Settings vary by alert type, but typically include the conditions under which Samsara should send the alert and the specific devices the alert is configured for. Alert configuration can include the following.

    1. Alert Schedule: Designate time range and days of the week to Enable or Disable notifications. Click + Add range to assign multiple schedule configurations.

    2. Send Alert To: Choose one or more contacts in your address book to whom you want to send the alert. Add New or Manage existing contacts.

    3. Send Webhook Notifications: If using Webhooks to send notifications for Samsara events to external servers, set the Webhook as a recipient for notifications. Click Manage to set up a new integration.

    4. Send Slack Notifications: Set up Slack to post a message when there is an alert. Choose the Slack integration to use. Click Manage to set up a new integration.

    5. Description: Enter an optional description that identifies or describes the purpose or scope of the alert.

  6. Save the alert configuration.

  7. As necessary, return to the Alerts page to manage your alert configurations and View Alert Incidents.

Samsara Alert Types

Alerts send email or SMS notification messages when incidents occur within an organization. Set up new alerts for timely notification of incidents outside an organization’s normal operations to better manage all components of a fleet. See the table below for alert types.

From the Alerts page, view alert incidents and create configurable alert triggers. Create and receive alerts for a variety of incidents including asset alerts, routing and dispatch alerts, safety alerts, gateway and sensor alerts, and compliance notifications.

Once an alert is configured, view incidents from Alerts → Incidents.

The Revenova integration with Samsara only supports the alert types listed in the table below.
